Andy introduced “Hope everyone give a big hand to blissfully welcome my forever ‘Little Dragon Girl’ (SLL), one can never find a second Little Dragon Lady in this world, Lin Mui really has a true heart of SLL, a heart of gold.” Audience gave a thunderous applause and both embraced as Andy finished singing “Strong Love in Two Hearts”. For this special segment, both appeared in attires designed by “Blanc de Chine“, which made the reunion of “Gugu” and “Gor Yee” even more perfect with the white color signifying the traditional Chinese lovers. It’s been long time no see Andy joked if Idy has visited “Passionless Valley”. Idy replied “I’ve been in China rural for half a year helping poor children and teaching them mental well-being. But along the way through many different places, Andy has been contributed significantly, it’s just that people don’t always mention it”. Fans immediately responded with great applause to both. In the audience and/or backstage, besides his parents, there was also Cherie Chung, TVB General Mangers Virginia Lok, Stephen Chan, Mrs. Run Run Shaw, and many other big names.

Idy Chan in ROCH1983 as Little Dragon Girl, after 26 years, the image still carries deep in people’s hearts: cold, distant, yet also the image of Idy Chan herself. Can’t imagine this Ancient Tomb Sect’s legend has transformed to “peripatetic”, putting aside all the past feelings of over 20 years. Idy Chan said “I’m now a nun!”
The plan was Idy to return to Canada with her mentor to continue with self-cultivation study, however, the plan has changed. She’s been in Hong Kong and accepted to host RTHK series “Hong Kong Stories”. She interviewed people from all walks of life on their jobs and lifestyles, she’s been working hard like a true journalist, and it’s also her way to exercise her spiritual practices. [related]
Known for her reserved and quiet nature, this time Idy will talk about others in “HK Stories”. “Doing this project is so fun, it is to send out meaningful messages to the public, they are the stories of everyday heroism by real people, and it’s charity work for me. Some stories I couldn’t help but just laugh.”
“No Had Knowns, No Plans”
On talking about other people’s stories, Idy inadvertently deep talked about her beliefs, “I’m not superstitious, but I believe in God. All thing has its path and it’s you to decide. Especially if you decide to do something, then must put all your heart and soul into making it happen, there’s no second chance for anything. When one day you’re on sick bed and cry ‘If I had only known’, it’d be too late by then.”
“The plan of no plans” she shared her philosophy.
“Sometime ago I suddenly wanted to do a martial arts drama, and forwarded the ideas to TVB, they gave me an action costume drama. The script was ready as well as the time slot, then the company postponed the shooting. And my original plan to come with my master to Canada couldn’t be delayed, so the play never happen. Eventually I had to stay in HK because of other matters, so now I have a chance to do ‘HK Stories. So we can’t control things in life, no expectations, it’s a ‘impermanence’!” [related]
Improving Ideological and accept the reality
Idy worked with young staff and crew, and she’d ask the party “What’s the meaning of life?”. If the other party show interest in discussion, she’d be ready to share her thoughts. From “HK Stories” interviews, Idy led fellow reporters to the “twilight zone”.
“I used to work mentally disordered patients, so mentality is the target. I hope to lead others in the spiritual aspects of progress, change the idea of wisdom and growth. In particular, young people, their self-cultivation, cognition may be limited to any religions like Buddhism, Christianity, Catholicism … I want to tell them of self-cultivation is not a religion, is to improve the ideological and accept the reality. The purpose of self-cultivation is close truthfully, truthfully what exactly? Death is inevitable in life, but some people will not dare to face, we should learn to accept the reality. I also taught to be self-discipline and have consciousness, yet do not constraint yourself …”
Does not disclose who is her “master”
In recent years, “master” is often mentioned in all her interviews. Idy has followed her “master” in Canada, US, and mainland China. And for over 2 years, she was “closed door” from the outside world, and she’s now at “self-cultivation” stage. To most people, it’s just a mystery.
“We also use books as the master, I read scriptures, from Bible to Laozi, and following the path of wisdom. I’m open to believe that there are many different Gods. I’ve known ‘master’ for 10 years now, and it’s been 5 years into my practice. Master has disciples come from US, Canana, China, they’re all accomplished professionals, compared to them, I feel so little.” Still, no disclosing of who is the “master”
Adopting a young girl. [related]
“I had left the circle for a long time and the locals didn’t know who I am. I went online and downloaded some ROCH photos of Andy Lau and me as Little Dragon Girl. Master told me to show them to the students. We each picked a family to support, there’s this pretty and healthy little girl, we took her to Guangzhou and lived there like a family. It’s like temporary support of their lives. If any kids want to return back to their parents, we would just send them home. We instruct the children from academic study to spiritual teaching. Some people ask me why it has to be girl? To be honest I chose based on merit, she and I will spend a lot of time together in the future, so had to select a right person”
Love life is self-cultivation
Once in love with Chow Yun Fat, admired by Andy Lau, married to Peter Chan Siu-Moo but marriage failed [related], rumored to have homosexual relationship with advertising director Maisy Choi. So how is Idy Chan’s love life now?
“My love life is to self-cultivate. (So there’s no love life at all?) I’m now a nun. (Being nun means no more feelings? Putting aside all feelings in the past?) Being a nun means going forth, this question is actually very interesting. Let me me think about it before giving you the answer. I will need more time to really think about it, haha…”
Idy Chan has really enlightened with her practice.
Producer Albert Cheung praised how Idy takes the job seriously, putting her best in every story.

Just a few days ago, the chaotic scenes that media reporters at both Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong Airports were the cause of the famous Andy Lau’s locking hands with his long-time [since 1986] girlfriend, allegedly wife, Carol Zhu. Details are covered at many Andy Lau’s fans sites like Andy Town, AndyLauSounds, etc.
The whole event has shed some light on the relationship of Mr. Lau and Ms. Zhu, which had been long speculated by media and unconfirmed by the couple. The crazed media coverage of the event leads to many fellow artists showing their full support for Andy and it seems no surprise for many of them. Idy Chan, who had always been linked to Andy due to their perfect pairing in the TVB classic ROCH1983, but has long been moving on from romantic relationships and now spiritually worships. Via the phone, she expressed “Andy Lau isn’t just a regular artist, he is a kind-hearted, yet spiritual man, if what we see is true, I just want to wish them the best of every single day, spiritually and mentally well, this is my heartfelt blessing to Andy.”
Side Note: Idy has signed an autograph for me. Just wanna show off. Thank you Miss Chan, and especially thanks to Hu-Yi. Click here to view.

Today marks the 25th year anniversary of TVB Classic “The Return of Condor Heroes (ROCH)” starring Idy Chan & Andy Lau. On this very day October 31, 25 years ago in 1983, ROCH was officially aired on TVB and even though I didn’t get to see it until a few year later, after almost 20 years, this TV series remains fresh in my heart. I’m posting some old photos of the beautiful pair Idy Chan & Andy Lau during that time. I’m feeling nostalgic…
Newsbits:
- TVB will celebrate its 41st Anniversary next month. The Anniversary Awards Ceremony will be on November 15, 2008.

[It’s interesting to see 3 Tigers, Andy Lau 劉德華, Kent Tong 湯鎮業, and Felix Wong 黃日華 shared their thoughts and views on Idy as a person, colleague, and actress. Andy was speaking in Mandarin, and he’s kinda awkward and wasn’t looking at the camera at some moments when speaking about how he fell for Idy back then. Poor guy. Felix seems to understand Idy, as a friend, the most. Somehow, Eric Li 李潤庭’s voice sounds similar to Stephen Chan 陳志雲’s of Be My Guest 志雲飯局. Cool interview! However I wonder why it takes CableTV Ent. News or CEN so long to air these interviews. It’s been 4 months since this interview was done, in mid-September 2007. Again, it’s first aired on Jan 24th 2008 and 2nd rerun on Jan 27th 2008 (CableTV channel 13 in Hong Hong).]
Updated 2008.01.31 – Here’s the brief of what 3 Tigers say about Idy:
Andy lau : She and I are fated [Then he talked about their first collaboration at HK radio]
She and SLL are the same, one lives in modern and other’s from ancient time. Living in modern time is difficult and that’s why she has more problems.
There’s time during the shooting of ROCH, she’s not happy. Then I only learned that she and Fat Gor (Chow Yun Fat) broke up. When I know that she and Fat Gor were a couple, I really wished they ended together.
I’d tell her that I like her, but she gave no feedback, nothing I could do.
[more of andy’s response @ A5 News]
Kent Tong Chan Yip: We worked together in many series DGSD, ROCH, etc…
She’s such a cool person, very quiet. She fits the role Wong Yu Yin, WYY and SLL are similar so SLL fits her well too
She’s very lip-tight about her personal love life, she doesn’t talk about it at all.
Derek Chiu Sung Kei [director of movie “Brothers” starring 4 tigers: andy, felix, kent, and michael miu kiu wai]: When speaking of Idy we have to relate to SLL, harm nobody, her personality is very appealing, very charismatic. She’s such a legend.
Felix Wong Yat Wah: She entered the circle just a little before me. therefore, she’s my “senior”, I’ve always respected her and listened to her.
She’s a very quiet person, she doesn’t like to talk much. During break time, she’d sit by herself thinking, reading books, but when you can engage in a conversation with her, she has such a beautiful personality.
Don’t judge just because she doesn’t talk much. Give her any roles, from quiet to strong, and active characters, she’d play all very well. She’s really engaged into her roles. She’s very versatile.
The most happy time I remember was filming The Grand Canal. We all went to Xi’an to film. Then we’d eat meals together and hang out. We’d continue to hang out when return to HK. The most difficult one when we filmed “The Wild Bunch”, she and I played a pair. There’s so many outtakes for one scene, she slapped me [not quite understanding this part], and that she didn’t talk to me for a long time.
Because I already married, so often no feelings between me and her. But wow, her SLL character is so attractive. She and I are really good colleagues.
I’ve heard that she now has religious belief, she’s really doing good deeds for others, of course, it’s been a while since we worked together, now I just hope to see her, have tea and chatting, and what’s going on in our lives.
At the end of the interview, Ma Ka Fai [a popular HK columnist/scholar] shared his view on why Idy as SLL is the most favorite of all. Because she’s not that pretty, she has all the features that are just right and fit so well to be SLL.

Idy Chan 陳玉蓮 revealed that Andy Lau 劉德華 did treat her like his girlfriend. Andy once said “The only distinct between her [Idy] and Little Dragon Girl 小龍女 is that they weren’t born in the same time, one lives in modern time, one lives in ancient time.” However, others [reporters] thought she was “arrogant” and wanted to beat her up because she didn’t how and what to respond to their questions with answers like “I don’t know” “Please don’t ask me”.
But Andy Lau saw a difference in her that he did fall for her, he said “During the shooting for ROCH, I felt that she’s really my girlfriend. I was worrying for her and missing her everyday when going home. Later, when she played Alan Tam 譚咏麟‘s girlfriend in “Casino Raiders 至尊無上” [watch related clip], I was really falling for her that I was very sad.” But Idy had no ideas that Andy adored her so much.
In the eyes of the audience often see Idy as an angel and that’s why they paid attention to her, but she’s just like any ordinary person and faced a difficult life too. During her early years, she had to rent a 60-sq-ft room, sometimes had to wear the costume wig to go home, didn’t have time to change clothes or rest, and quickly return back to film again.
Besides studying her religion, in the past year, Idy has great interest in betting horse racing. However, she doesn’t gamble based on the winning and loosing of the horses. She based her betting from researching, watching TV, reading newspapers, and studying the background of the horses.

[Special Thanks to Kit for providing the clip! Idy were beautiful here. Besides Idy, I read that Ray Lui 呂良偉 and Kathy Chow 周海媚 were also the among the veterans who have recently re-associated with TVB and appeared as presenters at this awards show. Most of TVB 40th Anniversary shows and specials happened during the first week in I were in Hong Kong. But too bad that I had to attend Aaron Kwok 郭富城 shows and I was dosing off at most of his shows [5 shows]. Fans in HK are very aggressive and nuts! Anyway, Ray Lui went with his wife and kid to one of Aaron’s shows, but I was only able to get a glimpse of him after the concert. Wish I could watch this TVB Awards LIVE, just want to see Idy and other favorite veterans. Mr. Andy Lau 劉德華‘s billboards and ads are everywhere in HK, he’s still popular and looking handsome! I watched a few new TVB series while in HK, but there’s so many new faces and most of them are… ugly and most of the series suck (pardon my language)!]
