名媛望族 SSSS: Rants and thoughts

December 12, 2012 at 12:12

Please apology for my writing here. My mind is a mess right now, but just wanted to rant some thoughts.

Why they ended Yee Yin (Idy Chan) so early while there’s still 4 episodes left to focus on characters that I have the least interest, esp. the trio, Charles (Kenneth Ma), Muk Shui (Ron Ng), and Siu Yau (Rebecca Zhu), who I grow to dislike as the drama progressed. How many times they ran the flashback scenes between SY and MS with those dough figures, when they expressed their feelings for each other. Dull. Yawn. Why did they cut Yat Fai (Ben Wong)’s few small parts that could replace all those useless flashback screen time. OK, it’s because I interpret the possible deleted scenes based on photos posted on TVB.com. Why can’t they squeeze a couple minutes of Yat Fai looked out when Yee Yin walked to the car. Why can’t they show the short moment of Yat Fai and Yee Yin in the car before it drove away. Why can’t create a “real story” in the drama with the major characters riding the horses instead of shooting it for the opening theme. So what about Yee Yin’s mother and brother? They didn’t even care to say goodbye to Yee Yin?

For me, the most moving part of Yee Yin’s departure is not with Arthur (Damian Lau), but with the whole family. I actually cried with them as I watched. Yee Yin meant well and genuinely loved everyone in the family. I also loved the part where the 4 wives together how they actually respect and love each other as real sisters. Now, I finally understand all the posts on weibo earlier this year when they finished filming in Hong Kong. They talked about this very episode.

I might come up with some more later…

Weibo report: Episode 36 generated a lot of discussion and large number of weibo posts by fans, other cast members and even producer Chong Waikin. Here are posts from Mary Hon, Elena Kong and Ben Wong as small samples. Chong even gave a name for SSSS sequel.

A fan shared this photo taken with Idy just last week in Beijing.

Such a sad ending!!! I agree, I cried more for the part relating to Yee Yin saying good bye to the family than for Arthur. I feel like their separation words further showed that Arthur really doesn’t fully understand Yee Yin yet. I wish he didn’t give her the letter!!! Im a bigger fan of Arthur & Yee Yin although Yat Fai will treat her better. At the end of the day, Yee Yin wants someone who gives her the full heart. She mentioned so many times, thats all she really wants. She doesn’t want to have to share. Its so sad 🙁 Arthur & Yee Yin are true love but bad timing and bad fate. I sort of laughed when Arthur said “Why is it everytime we try to get back together, he shows up?”. But for that moment when they were hugging and he tugged on her — I really thought there was that chance!!!

I hope the producer actually means for a sequel! At least have Idy film another drama again. Never thought I’d be so obsessed with Yee Yin’s role and come to like Idy, but I did! Does Idy do radio interviews anymore? For the longest time I really wanted Idy to go on Nancy Sit’s radio show, but I guess Idy is hard to make an appointment with. Hopefully Idy films another drama soon!

JingMui, I wrote exactly what I thought. I doubted for surprised ending every single moment of YY & A together.

Too bad, they always ended in separation of 2 series. Pointless for Yeihei and YY’s mother.

i knew the ending ahead of time too… but i very much just wished they could be together. but the way they set it up, had us all in love with the two at the beginning. I hope we get to see the deleted scenes eventually!

Yes Yeihei was simply to ruin the couple really….i very much detested Jimmy & YiHei.

Speaking of which, Yee Yin didnt actually leave to England right? Just left the family?

Thanks for visiting the site and sharing your thoughts. I wonder the same thing, it could be either way that Yee Yin left with Yat Fai for England or she just left the family. I really want more closure on Yee Yin’s going away…

They saved it for SSSS # 2. The return of YY for A & the torture love between Charle and Ron

I’m so glad you posted this. Seriously? TVB’s cut all the good parts and replaced it with all the rubbish scenes. It’s even come to the part where I don’t bother watching the drama anymore unless YY is in it 🙂

And totally agree with you there, the love triangle between Ron, Kenneth and Rebecca is pointless if you ask me. Why do I feel like Rebecca Chu is the main actress instead of Tavia? Rebecca gets a bigger told than Idy IMO and her acting’s just… Mehhh.

      R. Chu’s dull character and her bad acting have domino effect on Ron’s and Kenneth’s…

Yus, Ron and Kenneth aren’t that bad but I can’t stand watching them. Their characters’ storyline is rather boring :/

Idy is really an excellent actress. She portrays all the emotions and it felt so real ! I watched the last 10 mins of episode36 and cried so hard.

I feel that the whole drama she should have been the lead actress. Right from the beginning when they were happy, to the misunderstandings, to the farewell – she acted so well ! I have never been a fan of any actors but now I am a huge fan of hers. I really hope she will act more – love to watch her !

I feel Yee Yin is still the lead in the story. Her departure is one of the leads to the change in Arthur. Louise Lee in HOG left the story before it ended, but she was still lead. Idy’s role helped to shape majority of the plots for SSSS, without her, there’d be no entrance of Zi Kwan (whose suppose to fight for the change towards woman’s rights). So still a lead 🙂

Yee Yin’s departure has to be one of the biggest climax for the drama. So sad, so memorable.

Thanks JingMui for your great analysis… indeed, very sad yet memorable ending. I really hope Idy will film again as she kept mentioning that she would like to do comedy. Perhaps, on the possibility of working with Nancy Sit !?!? 😉

haha i’d love it if they work together!! Lots of laughter indeed! But even if not, it’d be great to just see Idy in action again 🙂 Preferably though with actors like Damian otherwise TVB likes to typecast veterans to be the lead’s parents or something @.@ which is kind of a waste of their acting abilities.

I wonder when Idy will be in HK again?? I don’t think she will show up for SSSS’s finale dinner 🙁
